2020-2021 Supplementary Information Tables - Reporting on Green Procurement

This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.
1. Context
Although the Office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada (ORSCC) is not bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act and is not required to develop a full Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS), the ORSCC adheres to the principles of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) by complying with the Policy on Green Procurement.
The Policy on Green Procurement supports the Government of Canada’s effort to promote environmental stewardship. In keeping with the objectives of the policy, the ORSCC supports sustainable development by integrating environmental performance considerations into the procurement decision‑making process through the actions described in the 2019 to 2022 FSDS “Greening Government” goal.

3. Report on integrating sustainable development
The ORSCC is supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy by taking environmental considerations into account when making purchasing decisions. The ORSCC uses Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) procurement instruments as its primary procurement mechanism and leverages the environmental considerations incorporated into these standing offers/supply arrangements by PSPC. Furthermore, when there is no PSPC standing offer available, the ORSCC includes a clause addressing environmental considerations, when relevant, in the performance of the work required.
The ORSCC implemented new projects for composting and the recycling of light bulbs in an effort to become a more environmentally friendly workplace.
The ORSCC plans to continue integrating sustainable development into its procurement practices and efforts will continue to be dedicated to promote Green Procurement through procurement training, inclusion of reminders on procurement forms, as well as pre-selected Green items when procuring office supplies and office furniture.
